On February 21, 2025, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) officially established a partnership with the West Java Chapter of the Indonesian Women of Indigenous Belief Organization (PUANHAYATI) to strengthen the empowerment of women from indigenous belief communities in West Java. The collaboration aims to enhance their capacity to address social and economic challenges, particularly those arising from climate change.
As the first initiative under this partnership, the Center for Public Policy and Management Studies (CPMS) of the Bachelor of Public Administration Program, together with PUANHAYATI West Java, organized a pre-training program entitled “Empowering Women of Indigenous Belief Communities: Transforming Climate Change Challenges into Economic Opportunities through Participatory Learning and Action (PLA).” The program introduced participants to participatory approaches for understanding climate-related issues while equipping them with practical knowledge and skills to develop sustainable economic opportunities.
The pre-training serves as the initial stage of a broader community engagement program that will be jointly implemented by CPMS UNPAR and PUANHAYATI West Java. Through innovation, collaboration, and community participation, the initiative seeks to improve the well-being of women from indigenous belief communities by enabling them to transform climate-related challenges into opportunities for economic empowerment.
This partnership reflects UNPAR’s commitment to fulfilling the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the area of community engagement, by developing innovative and impactful programs that address real societal needs. The initiative is expected to strengthen the resilience of women from indigenous belief communities while fostering inclusive and sustainable local development.
